Woohoo! Title news! (**my April Fools joke**)
Now that it’s April 2, I will confess in advance that this was my 2010 April Fools joke! I had such a good time and everybody was a great sport about it.
Okay, well, we’ve all been waiting with bated breath (or at least I have… if you haven’t, no need to tell me…) to figure out what we would be calling Book 2.
As many people know, the title for Book 1, Bad Girls Don’t Die, came about as a bit of a fluke. My agent, editor, and I had spent weeks making exhaustive lists of every possible word or title that had anything to do with ghosts, girls, bad behavior, dying, etc. Feeling a bit bogged down by the whole thing, I added in the middle of one of my lists, “Bad Girls Don’t Die (sung to the tune of…)”
Imagine my surprise when they loved it! After a small period of adjusting my brain, I came to love it, too, and one of the biggest challenges with Book 2 (aside from, you know, writing it) has been trying to come up with a suitable title that complements the first one. We considered other song titles (my Twitter followers will possibly recall “Die, Die, Miss American Pie”?), variations using “Good Girls,” etc.
But we finally came up with a scheme that is both “different” enough and “same” enough… And luckily, it covers the title for Book 3, too, which saves me, oh, another year of critical thought (which makes me tired).
So, without further ado…
Book 2 is to be called Don’t Bad Girls Die?
And Book 3 is Don’t Die, Bad Girls
The best part is, this leaves room for a Book 4 if we want one (Girls Don’t Die Bad).
Edited to add:
Yay! My editor gave me permission to post the first draft of the cover! Link: DGBD_covertest_31Mar10.gif
Hurray! Happy Thursday! Now off to do some more revising.

congrats and those sounds like good titles
Thanks, Julie! Did you check out the link to the cover?
hahahaha Don’t Die Bad Girls… hahahahhaha Oh Katie, you tease!!!
But seriously can’t wait for book2!!!
The best part is how positively simple it will be to keep track of the three books on my blog– BGDD, DBGD, and DDBG. Easy as pie!
I was soooo relieved when I saw that link. LOL
LOL, I wonder how many people are turning away in horror before clicking on the link.
OMG… I was soo excited when I saw the name, I truly do love them, but then I read the link and could do nothing but laugh!!! Nice Job…LOL!!!
You do, Yasmeen? You love them? That is hilarious! Thanks for commenting.
UGH I feel like pinching you Katie! ;P I LOVED those titles! I mean with the titles you can see the flow of the story as well as the playfulness of titles, how just by rearranging words can play such a BIG role of how its perceived. I was so ready to break out the WoW (waiting on wednesday) post for that cover/title ;P
but I love this joke!–too hilarious
Oh, Yan, I’m sorry! When you say it that way, I can almost see it. If we ever meet in person, you can pinch me. (But just a little pinch, because I’m a wimp.)
I’m happy to hear that your books are developing quite nicely. It’s of little surprise to me, however, since you put so much work and time into their development and construction.
I’m not trying sounds “nice” of flattering, but I see many good things happening for you in the future (if it’s not already taking place). You take your industry very seriously, and just as significant or substantial will be the reward.
On a much lesser note: Last night, I was watching the movie Pale Horsy: The Story of Alexander the Anemic Clydesdale. Have you ever seen it? Anyway, the DVD had a scratch in it so I was unable to finish watching it through the end. I got as far as the scene where Tucker walked up to Delmont and said, “If I ever catch you near my waf again, I’m-a- gonna embarrass you in front of your dogs!” And then Delmont backed away silently, shaken by horrifying threat.
I sure would like to know how it ended.
A little bit of background on the film. The story takes place in 1890’s Kentucky, and in Kentucky you NEVER embarrass a man in front of his dogs, otherwise they lose respect for you and snicker behind your back or go potty in places you brush your teeth in (in case you didn’t know).
Tom, Winston’s whole existence consists of trying to find ways to embarrass me in front of himself. I have a feeling the movie ends with a pack of Cavaliers coming in and boot-scooting circles on the carpet in front of a very important guest… possibly even in a wedding scene.
If I recall correctly.
Thank you for your kind words about my career. I hope they are sinking into my subconscious so it’ll force me to get some work done.
Oh my, that is quite…HILARIOUS! I read the titles and I’m like, “o-kay, then.”
Just made my day! Thank you!
Book 5: Bad Die Girls Don’t…? (This is when all the characters become disjointed zombies, and cannot speak clearly)
Ooh, Tracy! You’re good at this!
Hah! I actually kind of like “Girls Don’t Die Bad.”
That was a great April Fools. I had managed to get through the day without anything happening UNTIL THIS MOMENT.
Sommer, that is awesome. I’m so pleased you chose my fool to be fooled by!
Shame, shame!!!! I’m sure Mary Lou would not approve of this one bit!
Thanks. I must admit, I would have NEVER seen an ending like that coming.
BTW, Katie, would you consider the title “Night of the Delinquents” for book II? Sounds both mysterious and ominous! But if that title is too scary, then how about “Bad Girls of the Census.” Just a suggestion:0)
you tease…its okay…I took everything I read with a grain of salt
